Lenormand’s predecessor was a board game from the early 19th century called The Game of Hope. Through the vicissitudes of history and the shifts of time, this game gradually evolved into a divination deck with predictive functions. Lenormand’s true rise to fame was thanks to Marie Anne Adelaide Lenormand, the renowned fortune-teller of the Napoleonic era. Madame Lenormand successfully foretold Napoleon’s rise and fall, Josephine’s ascension, as well as her later marital crises. Although Madame Lenormand herself never directly designed this deck, her legendary fortune-telling stories made her name famous, and later generations began associating these cards with her.
Core Features of Lenormand Cards:
1. Number of Cards: A standard Lenormand deck has 36 cards, each featuring fixed imagery and symbolic meaning (such as “Anchor,” “Tree,” “Dog,” “Coffin,” etc.), usually accompanied by simple numbers and suits (originating from the playing card system).
