The Brady Tarot is a richly illustrated 78 (edit: 80!)-card tarot deck of the hand-colored linocut prints of Emi Brady. This body of work focuses on the true lives of the animals and plants of North America. It is a weaving of scientific, spiritual, and Indigenous perspectives on the many forms of life who call this wonderful continent home. It reawakens our instinct to seek the wisdom and guidance offered by our non-human neighbors. It calls us to examine the deeper truths inherent in natural law. It is a reminder that we are and have always been a single thread in the vast web of life.

The images in this deck were created as hand-colored relief prints. I worked on this deck in Denver, Colorado between January 2017 and May 2018. Relief prints—particularly linocuts— really aren't much more than glorified rubber stamps. Each card began as a block of linoleum which was carved by hand, inked, and then cranked through a press and printed onto paper. Once the ink dried, I hand-painted the images with gouache paint to add in the color.

Interestingly, the earliest editions of the first Tarot deck widely used for divination, the Tarot de Marseilles, were manufactured using the same method of relief printing and hand coloring.

So far, each edition of the Brady Tarot has had something different to offer, and the third edition will be no different. The biggest changes are:

- A larger scale, 200 page hardcover book (approximately 5.5" x 8.25" or 14cm x 21cm)
- Full-page and full-color images of each card
- Suggested reversal interpretations added to each card by the artist
- A three-part artist's foreword
- A NEW Strength card
- A NEW "Great Mystery" card
- A larger box with an all new imagery (approximately 9" x 6" x 2.5" or 23cm x 15.25cm x 6.3cm)
- Cardstock has been upgraded from 400gsm "art paper" to the German Koehler brand's 330gsm black core cardstock. Although thinner, this stock is the absolute gold standard of the industry and will stand the test of time.
- New satin finish allows for easier shuffling and higher image clarity.

WHAT STAYS THE SAME IN THE THIRD EDITION?
- Cards are the same size (3" x 5" or 76 x 127mm)
- Matte gold edges OR new matte black edges
- All images remain the same (original "Strength" is also in the third edition)
- Everything will still be made to the highest standard and will be a pleasure to work with

The third edition of this tarot deck will be a special one to me. 3 has always been my magic number! This edition in particular will be what supports me while I buckle down and fully devote myself to creating my next body of work, the Oracle of Deep Time! While the Brady Tarot examined life in North America within the last 10,000-12,000 years, this Oracle deck will dive deeper into everywhere and everywhen on the planet Earth.
